TECHNOLOGY AND APPLIED SCIENCE (TAS)

Kitchens The aim of the course is to teach students to responsibly, safely, confidently and accurately apply a range of contemporary and appropriate tools, materials and techniques and understand the implications and applications of these in the wider community. Students will learn to recognise the importance of safety, quality and management in the design and production of Design Projects.

They learn to manage their own time by sequencing processes of designing, producing and evaluating to plan ahead. Students work collaboratively and learn to work safely with others in technological environments.

At Pendle Hill High School, classwork in TAS is based on developing a range of skills so that students can work on solving design problems. Each week students will be involved in theory and practical hands on lessons. Each term students will move to a different area to develop new design projects. Students will have an opportunity to work different areas such as:

  • timber technologies
  • food technologies
  • metals technologies
  • textile technologies
  • information technologies

Assessment
Assessment is based on

  • skill development
  • participation in each lesson
  • final product
  • design folio
  • set research tasks / assignments

Homework
Each term students will work on a new design project. Some design projects will require them to complete a research assignment, but generally weekly homework will consist of:

  • completing any worksheets from theory lessons
  • doing some personal research to help develop design ideas
  • developing and completing the design folio
  • completing the design end product

At the end of Year 8, students may select one of the School Certificate TAS elective subjects offered by the school. At the end of Year 10, students may select one of the Higher School Certificate TAS elective subjects offered by the school.
