Information Literacy @ PHHS

Information Literacy Poster Information Literacy is described in many ways, but basically is the ability to effectively find, analyse, synthesise, and present meaningful information. You can access an interactive diagram that shows these skills.

Technically speaking, Information Literacy is a set of skills rather than a subject. Being information literate is important not only for completing school research tasks, but also for life outside and beyond secondary education. Competency is expected not only at tertiary studies level, but also in the modern workforce - and will become increasingly so in years to come.

Information Literacy requirements are embedded in all subjects, and all years, throughout the NSW Board of Studies curriculum. However, the skill set increases in demands as students progress through to the Higher School Certificate.

At Pendle Hill High School, the critical Information Literacy Skills are delivered by the teachers in setting research assignments and tasks. Further refinement of those skills is one of the many roles undertaken by qualified Teacher Librarians.

  • You can view a 12 minute online video about the importance of Information Literacy here (not available through the DET network).
