OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAM

Lithgow 2008 During the last week of the school holidays and first week of this term, 6 of our senior students gave up 10 days of their time to take part in an Outdoor Education program, conducted by staff from Lithgow TAFE. The students spent their time camping out in the bush, away from all the comforts of home and mastered a range of new skills, including rock climbing; abseiling; canyoning; bushwalking and surfing. Lithgow TAFE supplied the tents, food, waterproof jackets and all specialised safety equipment. By the end of the 10 days our students had not only had a great time, but had also gained accreditation for a TAFE course that counts as 2 units towards their HSC studies! What an opportunity!

Congratulations to Sarah Hoving and Vedika Nandni, Yr 12; Jamie Lee Scarcella, Sarah Sykes, Michael Robb and Adam Siriani of Year 11. Special thanks to Mr Vale for coordinating this program.

“Going to a 10 day camp program was something new, something that I had never done before. It was a great learning experience and I learnt a lot about rock climbing, abseiling, canyoning and bush walking. After coming back from camp and after learning so much about nature, I would highly recommend others who are willing to try something new out of their comfort zone. It is a great learning environment as well as a program where you can meet and interact with other people from different backgrounds.”
