Our Library
Pendle Hill High School library welcomes everyone - there are comfortable chairs for relaxing reading and where, outside of lesson time, students may sit with friends, share magazines, or generally chill out. Quiet spaces have been reserved for completing last minute assignments, doing homework or using free time for individual research and exam study. The library's print resources range from the great classics to up to date popular fiction. If we don't have the resource you'd like to see in the collection, let us know and we'll acquire it if possible, by purchase or else loans from other libraries.
For research purposes, the large collection of non-fiction and magazines is available, while for on-line research, individual computers are available for student use - during class time, at recess, lunch, or before school. These computers may also be used to print assignments on the library’s printer, at a cost of 10c per page.
There are two class areas, one set up as a class room, with a white board, a television for viewing DVDs and videos, and a data projector for power point presentations, or shared on-line research/instruction for the whole class. The other class area is set up for small group work at individual tables, close to the main library collection, so easy access is given to the nonfiction and fiction resources.
In addition, some of the students have begun to knit squares for the ‘Wrap With Love’ project, and they gather at lunch times to work on their knitting - they can even listen to audio books while they do so if they wish.
The Premier’s Reading Challenge has been introduced, and the recommended books have been housed in their own special section of the library for ease of access, and all students in years 7 to 9 are encouraged to participate - the reading lists cater to all levels of age, interests and ability.
